For Rutland finds a new home at St George’s Barracks in North Luffenham to protect its future

A fundraising group has secured its future by finding a new base for its work.

For Rutland volunteers raise money to fund two specialist advisors at Citizens Advice in Oakham.

Their biggest event is a Good and New clothing sale which takes place in March.

Donations are collected, stored and prepared throughout the year but in November the committee was told the lease on the current base in Pillings Road, Oakham, would not be renewed.

Volunteers launched an appeal to find a new home and the Ministry of Defense has now offered a space in the Officers’ Mess at St George’s Barracks, North Luffenham.

Vice chairperson of the committee, Trish Ruddle, said: “We are determined to continue with this wonderful tradition and to fulfill our strapline of improving lives in our community.

This year’s sale will take place on Friday, March 24 from 5-8pm and Saturday, March 25 from 8.30am until 1pm at Rutland Showground in Oakham.

The usual venue of Barnsdale Lodge is unavailable due to refurbishment work.

Tickets for the opening night cost £20 including champagne and canapés from Hambleton Hall. They are available by emailing [email protected]

Admission to the main sale costs £5 on the door and most items will be half price.

Trish added: “We are looking forward to seeing those familiar faces who have supported us for so many years and know all about the amazing bargains you can buy

“We also look forward to welcoming our newer shoppers to introduce them to the wonderful array of pre-loved, good quality clothes and accessories.”

Donations can be dropped off at Costa in Uppingham and Cavells or John Porters Dry Cleaning in Oakham.
