The Henderson County Tourism Development Authority announced it is holding two annual contests, the Home Holiday Decoration Contest and the Merchant Holiday Decoration Contest, with both beginning in the first week of December.
With each contest, the outside of the business or home will be judged and voted on by the public, who will go online to select their favorite displays, according to a press release. Voting will be open between Dec. 5-16, and will be conducted on Henderson County Tourism’s website.
Registration to compete in either contest closes at the end of the day on Friday, Nov. 18, the release said.
“These contests have become increasingly popular for both visitors and locals, and since people can explore and view the displays in their own time, it is a fun, potentially multi-evening activity for families and groups of all sizes,” said Asset and Event Development Coordinator Amy Boswell. “In terms of why businesses may want to compete, this is an easy, free way to get additional exposure to their storefront, increasing their holiday sales.”
To compete in the Home Holiday Decoration Contest, homes must be located in Henderson County on a public road, and displays must be viewable from the street. To compete in the Merchant Holiday Decoration Contest, the only stipulation is that the business must be located in Henderson County. Past participants have included stores, restaurants, hotels and other accommodations as well as non-profits, doctor offices and more.
Winners will be selected from each category and will receive prizes. For more information or to register your home or business to compete and eventually see the list of competitors and vote, go to https://visithendersonvillenc.org/home-for-the-holidays.
